Aerópolis hosts the 5th International Dual Use Conference

The Regional Minister of Economy, Rogelio Velasco, highlighted during the opening the opportunities of the Space and Defense industry for Andalusian companies

The Aerópolis Business Centre once again hosted the International Conference on Dual Use Technologies that, on this occasion, focused on Space, Defense and Security policies in Europe. In this sense, during the event, the current situation was analyzed in order to boost the space and defense industry in the European regions, offering a global vision of the existing opportunities, the sources of financing and the instruments available in Space as a dual-use domain .

Almost 150 participants met at the end of November at this conference, during which the head of Economy pointed out the European investments planned for the sector until 2027 with the European Defense Fund, endowed with 13,000 million, and the European Strategy, with 16,000 millions.

In his speech, the head of Economy underlined the relevance that Andalusia already has in this segment, referring to its `exceptional geographical and visibility conditions for the development of this sector´, as well as `to its strong business, institutional and research fabric´. In that sense, he pointed out that, in the region, 46 companies, eleven public institutions and 71 research groups with some degree of participation in this segment are currently identified. `All this means 128 references in the space industry´ he said.

That weight of Andalusia is complemented, in his opinion, with a public action of supportive government, formalized in the recent Aerospace Action Plan of Andalusia. `This plan reflects the commitment of the regional Executive with the impulse to knowledge, talent and industry, supporting companies and the space industry and the knowledge system, with the collaboration, at national level, of the Ministry of Defense and CDTI´, he claimed.

The head of Economy explained that this Action Plan, that will become effective inmmediately, and the Aerospace Strategy 2027, that emerged from it, `will strengthen and diversify the capabilities of the Andalusian industry towards space and defense, betting on disruptive technologies and, above all, to generate and update talent at the service of companies´. `Andalusia has been the first Spanish region with a government commitment in this sense´ he said.

The 5th International Dual Technology Conference, which brought together national and international institutions, experts and key companies for the European defense industry in Aerópolis, was organized by the Ministry of Economy, through the IDEA Agency, with collaboration of the European Commission, the European Defense Agency, TEDAE, CDTI and the Ministry of Defense.
